BetterShot

Privacy Policy

We built BetterShot around a simple rule: your photos stay on your device unless you choose a feature that needs to process one.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how OdO Holding B.V., Netherlands (“BetterShot,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles personal data when you use the BetterShot iOS app, our website, and related support services.

OdO Holding B.V. is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can contact us at info@bettershotapp.com.

2. Data we collect

Account and authentication data

If you create an account, we collect identifiers such as your name, email address, internal user ID, sign-in provider, authentication records, session information, IP address, and user-agent information. Apple may provide a relay email address when you use Sign in with Apple.

Photos and photo instructions

Your shoots and captured photos are stored locally on your device. When you choose Coach Check or an enhancement feature, we receive the photo you selected, related image metadata needed to process it, and any enhancement choices or text instructions you provide.

Subscription and transaction data

Apple processes payments. We receive subscription and entitlement information from Apple and RevenueCat, including product identifiers, purchase status, renewal or expiry information, and identifiers used to connect a subscription to your BetterShot account. We do not receive your full payment card details.

Usage, diagnostics, and support data

We collect product events, feature usage, app version, device and operating-system information, error details, and network request metadata. Session replay is configured to mask images and text inputs, and automatic touch-target capture is disabled. If you contact support, we receive your message and any account or subscription diagnostics included with it.

Website data

This website does not use analytics cookies, advertising trackers, forms, or client-side analytics. Cloudflare may process standard request information such as IP address, browser details, requested URL, and security or performance logs to deliver and protect the site.

3. How we use data

We use personal data to:

  • create and secure your account;
  • provide photo coaching and requested enhancements;
  • manage subscriptions, allowances, and purchase restoration;
  • operate, troubleshoot, and improve BetterShot;
  • respond to support and privacy requests;
  • prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents; and
  • meet legal and regulatory obligations.

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on performance of our contract with you, your consent where required, our legitimate interests in securing and improving the service, and compliance with legal obligations.

We do not sell personal data, use photos for advertising, or use photos submitted to BetterShot to train our own AI models.

4. Photos and AI processing

BetterShot only sends a photo off your device when you deliberately use a feature that requires server processing and have allowed AI photo processing. Before asking for permission, the app identifies the AI features and providers covered by your choice.

  • Coach Check: the selected frame is sent securely to our API and OpenAI to generate guidance. BetterShot does not add that frame to your server-side photo library.
  • Enhancement: the selected photo is temporarily stored by BetterShot on Cloudflare and processed using Google Gemini. OpenAI may also be used to diagnose what an enhancement should address.
  • Results: an enhanced image remains available only long enough for delivery. BetterShot deletes the input after processing and deletes the output after confirmed delivery or when it expires after 24 hours.

AI providers may process submitted content according to their enterprise or API terms and applicable retention controls. We share only what is needed to perform the feature you requested.

5. Service providers

We use service providers to operate BetterShot. They process data for the following purposes:

ProviderPurpose
AppleSign in with Apple, App Store distribution, and subscription payments
CloudflareWebsite and API hosting, security, queues, and temporary enhancement-file storage
PostHog EUProduct analytics, masked session replay, and error diagnostics
RevenueCatSubscription status, entitlements, and purchase restoration
OpenAIPhoto coaching and, when applicable, enhancement diagnosis
Google GeminiPhoto enhancement
ExpoApp builds, updates, and delivery infrastructure

We require service providers to protect personal data and use it only to provide their services to us, subject to their applicable terms and legal obligations. We may also disclose data when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a corporate transaction with appropriate safeguards.

6. Retention and deletion

  • Local photos and shoots: remain on your device until you delete them in BetterShot, remove the app and its data, or manage them through iOS.
  • Enhancement files: inputs are deleted after processing. Outputs are deleted after confirmed delivery or automatically expire after 24 hours.
  • Account and service records: are kept while your account is active and then deleted or anonymized when no longer needed, unless a longer period is required for security, dispute resolution, tax, accounting, or other legal obligations.
  • Analytics and diagnostics: are retained according to our configured provider periods and then deleted or anonymized. You may ask us to delete analytics linked to your account.
  • Support messages: are kept as long as needed to resolve the request and for a reasonable follow-up period.

Deleting your BetterShot account removes BetterShot-controlled account, entitlement, metering, and temporary enhancement records associated with it. Apple, RevenueCat, or another provider may retain records they control when required for transaction history, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.

7. Your choices and rights

You control whether BetterShot can access the camera or photo library through iOS Settings. You can withdraw permission for AI photo processing at any time under Account → Privacy. After you turn it off, BetterShot blocks new AI Tips and photo enhancements unless you choose to allow processing again.

You can delete your account from Account → Delete account in the app. You can also email info@bettershotapp.com to request access, correction, export, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or deletion of personal data.

If the GDPR applies to you, you may also lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or your local supervisory authority. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

8. Security and international transfers

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal data, including encrypted network connections, access controls, limited photo retention, and separation of local and server-side data. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Our providers may process data outside the Netherlands or European Economic Area. Where required, we use recognized transfer safeguards such as adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses, or equivalent legal mechanisms.

9. Children

BetterShot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. Where local law requires a higher age for valid consent, a parent or guardian must authorize use. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal data without appropriate permission.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as BetterShot or applicable law changes. We will post the revised policy here, update the date above, and provide additional notice in the app when a change materially affects your rights.

11. Governing law and disputes

This Privacy Policy and disputes arising from or relating to it are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. The competent courts of Amsterdam, Netherlands have exclusive jurisdiction over such disputes, unless mandatory consumer-protection or other applicable law gives you the right to bring a claim before another court.
